As president of Shanghai University (hereinafter referred to as SHU). I take great pride in our achievements, particularly our status as one of the top 40 Chinese universities, top 100 Asian universities, the premier university of Shanghai, and a member of China Project 211 Universities.
Founded in 1922, SHU is a university with honored traditions. In the diversity of its students, its global outlook, and its outstanding research, it is also a university of compelling changes. SHU is very much like the City of Shanghai itself: a large, multicultural community with tremendous opportunities and resources. And, like Shanghai, it has been growing at a rapid pace over the past 2 decades, where the staff and students are provide with state-of-the-arts facilities to pursue their own academic and research path.
Every day walking through our modern and cosmopolitan campus, I am inspired to see staff and students from 119 different countries and regions assembling tighter to accomplish their academic dreams, devoted to the research to challenge the boundaries of human knowledge and play a pivotal role in solving pressing problems our world is face with.
The development of human society at top speed puts forward tougher requirements to the higher education. Instead of being complacent about the glorious past. We are striving to become a world-leading university with global prestige of diversification, internationalization and innovation.
With a clear educational mission, far-sighted objectives on talent cultivation, combined with global perspectives and creative awareness. SHU will become a key player in Chinese education sector and make significant to China.
