A Brief Introduction to the Scientific Research on the Humanity and Social Science in Shanghai University
 
Shanghai University has 15 schools and colleges of the humanity and social science and more than 1,100 full-time teaching staff and researchers who are engaged in the teaching and scientific research in the humanity and social science, more than 600 of them had acquired senior professional and technical titles and doctorates.
 
The main programs offered by the schools and colleges of the humanity and social science in Shanghai University includes: 11 primary discipline doctoral programs (applied economics, sociology, Chinese language and literature, journalism and communication, Chinese history and world history, management science and engineering, art theory, drama and film studies, fine arts, design studies), 1 secondary discipline doctoral program(ideological and political education) and 20 primary discipline master's programs.
 
At present, the key disciplines in the humanities and social sciences in Shanghai University includes: 1 national key discipline(sociology), 5 Shanghai Key Disciplines(modern and contemporary Chinese literature, communication study, film study, Fine Arts Creation Center of Shanghai University, Public Art Creation Center of Shanghai University), 1 Key Discipline of Shanghai Education Bureau (modern Chinese social and cultural history), 4 First-class Disciplines(type B) of the Universities in Shanghai (sociology, world history, drama and film studies, fine art).
 
Nowadays, Shanghai University owns a series of high quality research bases and platforms in the field of humanity and social science, 3 of those bases are co-founded with national ministries and commissions. They are Public Diplomacy Institute of Shanghai Cooperation Organization of Shanghai University(The Ministry of Foreign Affairs) 、Academy for Art Industries of China(Ministry of Culture, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles) , Sport Sociology Key Research Base(General Administration of Sport of China) ; research bases cooperate with city of Shanghai includes: Sociology E-Institute of Shanghai University, Knowledge Service Center of Public Art Innovation Industry(085), the Humanitys and Social Science Key Research Base of Shanghai University, Chinese Social Transformation and Social Organization Research Center, Film and Media Industry Research Base, Shanghai Social Sciences Innovation Research Base(Professor Wu Xinxun Studio in Shanghai Institute for Development Strategy), Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Research Center, Shanghai University Innovation Team(1st phase) Construction Projects(Sociology Innovation Team in Shanghai University).
 
By the end of 2011, funding for research and development in the humanity and social science in Shanghai University had reached 7,150, 5100 Yuan, fourth among all the universities in Shanghai.
 
In 2011, Shanghai University had acquired 25 projects funded by National Social Science Fund, 28 projects funded by the Humanity and Social Science Fund of the Ministry of Education, 14 projects funded by Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences Fund and also Shanghai Higher Education 085 Connotation Construction Project “The Social Development in Metropolis and the Construction of an Intelligent City”, etc. Among them, 2 are listed as major bidding projects by National Social Science Fund and 1 is a Tackling Key Subject of Philosophy and Social Sciences Research, Ministry of Education. They are respectively A Study on the Harmonious Interaction between Social Stratification and Social Mobility undertaken by Professor Zhang Wenhong, A Study on Social Quality and the Construction of a Harmonious Society undertaken by Professor Zhang Haidong and A Study on Strengthening the Construction of Social Organizations in a New Era undertaken by Professor Li Youmei.
 
In 2011, Chinese Journal of Sociology hosted by Shanghai University was successfully selected into “The Construction Project (3rd phase) of Renowned Academic Journals of Philosophy and Social Sciences in All Universities” by the Ministry of Education. Meanwhile, it was also winner of a nomination for the Chinese Government Award for Publishing (Journals).
 
In recent years, important research achievements on the humanities and social sciences in Shanghai University have continuously spring out, among them, Changes of Social Life in China by professor Li Youmei become one of the first batch of 100 classical works authorized to be translated and published overseas by General Administration of Press and Publication of the People’s Republic of China and also the only one chosen work in Shanghai. Furthermore, 3 more research achievements are selected into National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences; they are respectively A Study on the Narrative Tradition in Chinese Literature by Professor Dong Naibin, A Theory of Self-evaluation by Professor Chen Xinhan and A Study on the Realization Mechanism and Strategy of Information Commons by Research Librarian Ren Shuhuai.
 
In recent years, the amount of awards for scientific research on the humanities and social sciences in Shanghai University has increased greatly. Till now, Shanghai University has received 29 awards respectively from The Ninth Session of Deng Xiao-ping Theory Research and Publicity Excellent Achievement Prize in Shanghai City and The Eleventh Session of Philosophy and Social Sciences Excellent Achievement Prize in Shanghai City and also 3 awards from The Eighth Session of Decision-making Consultation Research Achievement Prize in Shanghai City.
